Did you know that horse tail grows in length during monsoons!
Horse hair or even human hair grows in length during monsoon, and decreases in summers.
How?
!! Humidity !!
Human or horse tail's hair responds to changes in humidity by expanding and contracting. As the relative humidity increases, the hair absorbs moisture and lengthens. As the air dries out, the hair shrinks back.

A smart scientist, Horace-Bénédict de Saussure from Switzerland in the 18th century noticed this and created something super useful- A horse hair hygrometer.

The setup being very simple! By attaching the hair to a spring mechanism and needle, we can turn these tiny expansions into visible movements on a dial, therefore creating a simple yet effective humidity gauge. And the device doesn't require any batteries!
